Lakewood’s Girl’s Varsity Basketball is currently in their first season in the West Shore Conference and have done very well. The WSC consists of Lakewood, Rocky River, Elyria Catholic, Avon, Midview, Bay and Vermilion high schools.

The girl’s record currently is 18 wins and 3 losses. In conference play, they are  12 and 1. Their one loss in the conference was against Avon in a tough overtime loss. Their other two losses are 2 non-conference games against Saint Joseph Academy and Magnificat High School. Lakewood Girl’s Basketball has not won a conference championship since 1996, making it the first conference championship in 17 years.

Sophomore Mikayla Harper said, “I am really proud of my team, we really came together and dominated this conference. We had a vision going in and we set high standards and goals for the season. We did really well achieving them and plan to keep going.”

Wednesday is their last regular season game and Senior night against Rocky River here at the East Gym. The girl’s first play-off district game is this Saturday Feb. 16th against Berea.
