Girl’s basketball shoots into action
With winter approaching very quickly, we know its basketball time.
The girls have been working hard since the summer to ensure they have a good season. Having open gyms and summer leagues have helped prepare all the girls who tried out for this year’s team.
There have been a few changes for the girls this season. They are in the new conference, West Shore Conference. Many girls believe this will be a very different season because they don’t know how the new teams play and what they are capable of.
Junior, Erin Hoffert stated, “We have no idea what we are getting into with this conference, but if we work hard we can stay optimistic.”
Another big change this season is that there are two new coaches. Their head coach also changed positions. The two new coaches are Mary Hyland and Sarah Kazanas. Hyland will be the junior varsity coach. Kazanas will be the assistant varsity coach. Mike Harper was the junior varsity coach last season and moved to the head varsity coach this year. Mike Ribar will keep his position as the freshmen coach.
When asked about the coach’s personalities, junior, Allison Mazzeo answered, “They are really fun and love to have a good time, but can be serious when we need to be! They are very enthusiastic and bring that to practice everyday.”
“I love the coaching staff this year,” said Junior Megan Barrett, “I know that they are ready to work and use our team’s talent to its best level.”
